SPACEial North West stands for Spatial Planning Analysis and Collaborative Exchange of Information and Learning in the North West Region Cross Border Area.
The Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) has awarded Grant Aid of €518,035, under the Public Sector Collaboration Theme of the EU’s INTERREG IVA Programme, to the North West Region Cross Border Group to carry out the SPACEial North West Project.
The overall aim of the SPACEial North West Project is to track changes in population patterns across different settlements in the North West Region Cross Border Area, over the 2000 – 2010 period. This project will identify, capture and map key drivers of population change in the North West Region Cross Border Area (NWRCBA), whilst also enhancing the skills and capacity of key policy and decision makers in using geographical information systems to plan and deliver services within the region.
The objectives of the project are:
Ultimately this project will assist with more evidence based planning the NWRCBA for many years to come.
Our Cross Border Partnership
The project promoter is the North West Region Cross Border Group (NWRCBG). Its project partners consist of the following council areas:
Donegal County Council (Lead Implementing Council)
Strabane District Council
Derry City Council
Limavady Borough Council
Magherafelt District Council
In addition to the above the project steering committee will also consist of representatives from the Border Regional Authority, ICLRD, the East Border Region, ICBAN, ILEX, the Centre for Cross Border Studies and Planning Services Northern Ireland.
SPACEial NW consists of 5 team members:
Ms Loretta Mc Nicholas – Research and Policy Manager; Ms Rosita Mahony – Research and GIS Coordinator; Ms Catherine Mc Laughlin Planner and Research Officer; Ms Marie Kerr - Clerical Officer; Ms Mary Mc Bride – Planner and Research Officer
The project began on 6th September 2010 and is due for completion on 31st January, 2014.
